Rancho Santa Rosa Red Wines
Pinot Noir
As testament to the terroir and climate of the Santa Rita Hills,
Foley's estate vineyard is planted to 118 acres of Pinot Noir.
The vineyards themselves are divided into 31 unique micro-blocks and
virtually every block is situated on the steepest hillside terrain,
much of which is heavily laden with limestone sub-soils. Rancho
Santa Rosa is planted to seven clones of Pinot Noir: Pommard, 2A,
113, 115, 459, 667 and 777.
Rancho Santa Rosa's Pinot Noir grapes are hand picked and sorted over the course of September and October. All grapes are carefully de-stemmed and crushed, then gently moved to small bins or open top tanks. The caps are punched-down by hand three times daily during fermentation to extract color and flavor. The young wine is then pressed and transferred to a combination of new and seasoned French oak barrels for up to 16 months ageing followed by careful racking before bottling. Crimson in color, Rancho Santa Rosa Pinot Noir is redolent of dark fruits, vanilla and spice.

"Micro-Lots"
Pinot Noir
Ideally situated in the cool climates of the Santa Rita Hills AVA,
Foley's estate vineyard is planted to 118 acres of Pinot Noir.
In the tradition of Cote d' Or farming, the acreage of Pinot Noir
is broken into thirty-one unique micro-blocks. Based on soil,
exposure, elevation and grade, each micro-block is appropriately planted
to one of the following seven Pinot Noir clones: Pommard, 2A, 113,
115, 459, 667 and 777. Each block is harvested and vinified
separate from one another.
In the spirit of diversity found in the vineyard, Foley produces many
small bottling of Pinot Noir. Limited in their distribution, each
bottling reflects the site-specific nature of Rancho Santa Rosa as well
as the uniqueness of block, clone or vintage.

Syrah
Rancho Santa Rosa has 8 acres planted to Syrah, which is broken into
two unique blocks; Block 1A is planted to both Clone Noir and Clone
01, while Block 1B is planted entirely to Clone 01. Located
at the base of Rancho Santa Rosa's western corridor, both blocks share
a southeast facing, sheltered hillside. Typically the last blocks
to ripen, it is not unusual for the Syrah to be harvested in late
November. Only Santa Barbara's temperate and dry fall climate
affords such extended time on the vine and flavor development.
Hand-harvested in mid-November, the estate Syrah is carefully de-stemmed and gently moved to small tanks for fermentation. Upon completion the must is pressed off and the young wine transferred to small 60-gallon French oak casks for aging. Incorporating both new and old French oak barrels, each vintage is aged for 18 months. Foley Syrah is purple-black in color with aromas of dark berry fruit and cassis intertwined with vibrant notes of white pepper, espresso, bittersweet chocolate and vanilla.
